UXBRIDGE, U.K. – The Syndicat Mixte Intermodal Régional de Transports (SMIRT), a grouping of transport authorities in northern France, has become the first to deploy the Conduent Mobility Companion Platform to deliver a new solution that simplifies the passenger experience from ticket purchase to best routes available and increases the attractiveness of public transport across its region.
The solution, called passpass.fr, enables door-to-door trip planning that combines a range of travel options from the 14 local transportation authorities in SMIRT. Alongside bus and train services, users also have access to carpooling and bike hire. The solution is available via the passpass.fr website.
“Until now passengers that wished to use several types of public transport network found only partial travel information. With passpass.fr all this information can be accessed. This is a significant step and, in a year’s time, passengers will also be able to buy transportation tickets online via passpass.fr,” said Gérald Darmanin, president of SMIRT and vice-president of the Région Hauts-de-France in charge of transport. “The Conduent Mobility Companion Platform has enabled us to deliver an excellent digital solution that showcases the transport networks of the region and eventually each mobility operator.”
How the solution works
The traveller inputs the departure and arrival points in the Transport Route Planner, as well as sorting options such as cost, carbon footprint, maximum walking time and number of connections. The application then offers the traveller the best routes, multimodal travel options and prices established from a wide variety of mobility partners, both public and private.
"The Conduent Mobility Companion Platform takes a broader regional approach to mobility, relying on systems already being used by operators and local authorities,” said Jo Van Onsem, senior vice president and managing director, Global Public Transportation and Management Systems Group, Conduent. “As such it constitutes a cornerstone of Conduent’s strategy to innovate and facilitate the daily life of millions of citizens and to make cities and regions ever smarter and more traveller friendly. By putting all the options and information at a traveller’s fingertips, our transportation solutions can help them get from point A to point B in the safest, most efficient and economical way.”
Further enhancements; phase two
We expect the solution will be enhanced during 2017 to include additional travel offerings in the region such as the best cycling routes, car sharing, cross-Channel ferry links and, potentially, other offerings such as taxis or Lille Lesquin Airport flight schedules.
In the second phase of passpass.fr, planned for mid-2018, Conduent will integrate the Conduent Ticketing System with the Conduent Mobility Companion Platform to harmonise the entire distribution chain of mobility services through a single smart ‘PassPass’ travel card that customers can use across the entire network. Real time information will be integrated into the Transport Route Planner to notify the traveller of any delays and suggest alternatives to reach their destination. Customers will be able to use the solution, also then available as a smartphone app, to book and pay for their travel, meaning that they can coordinate their entire trip in one go.
The solution was developed by experts in Grenoble, France and at Conduent’s international public transportation and fare collection centre of excellence located in Valence, France.
